Thomas F. Egan

So I mentioned my pop-pop in my last post.

I really don't know much about his youth except that he was raised in Atlantic City, his sister was a nun, and his father was terrible. His generation was also the first of our Egan line born outside of Ireland.

He lived by working commercially doing typography work, teaching graphic design at AI and designing labels for various companies including Campbell's soup. He made enough money to raise 6 kids, sustain his wife, and raise a few dogs and cats.
He was an artist and a musician, giving me my first lesson in watercolors when I was about 5 years old and singing to me and my siblings on his banjo or dobroe when we went to his house for the holidays. He is one of the main reasons I am where I am today.

My dad just got a couple of CDs with his recordings on them. It's very strange and familiar hearing his voice again after it being silent for so long, and ever stranger because he and my father have the same way of speaking.

I really need to learn banjo quicker.
