Greetings my loves. I feel so good inspired lately :D. Like I can actually draw again. I think it's because I'm slowly coming to a greater understanding of art. You can't solely just do realism or solely cartooning... You must be well-rounded. I already knew this before, but only lately with all the college stuff have I come to a better understanding of it. Humn.
It's been like a rollercoaster with art. At first all I did was manga/anime, then I weedled into realism, now I mostly do realism but still like anime and american cartoons. I liked them still before, but I was kinda ehhhh towards drawing them for a while because I thought "Oh, I'm past that point." But that's the glorious glory!!! :D I can go back whenever I want (even though I don't really want to) and I can go and dabble and then come back again. For some reason I thought it was like the land of no return. Wow.
I think I have some mental problems. But I love cartoons. And I love real people. And I love you.
Now some art.

Okay, so about these! There is a book series that I really love called Uglies (and you can go to the Scott Westerfeld's blog here-- he's the author by the way) from which all of these characters are featured in. :q I honestly don't feel like typing a summary about it because it would take me all night (because I go into crazy detail about crap like this), so go here for it. ANYWAYS. Uglies. Yes. Um. David and Zane are Tally's lovers. David's "ugly" (though I actually like the drawing of him better than the drawing I did of Zane) and Zane's actually supposed to be a "pretty" even though he doesn't look hot enough there. I pictured him as some scene kid who weres black everything but he is extremely gorgeous. He belongs to some rebellious 'pretty' clique. David is one of the only people born outside of the city, aka he lives in the woods like a wild man. For some reason I always thought of his home-made leather jacket to be more colored like human skin or pig skin rather than cow hide. But this is because I am a sicko. And I made him tannish and freckly and dirty with some scratches and a sorta crooked smile even though it's not crooked enough and eyebrows are boderline unibrow but his hair is in the way. And if they aren't, then at least they are furry. Which is how he is supposed to be in the book.
Tally and Pretty Tally. I pictured her freckly and fringey because... that's what was on the book cover. But on the cover she wasn't squinty with frizzy hair D:!!! I think I made her look slightly like myself when I had that haircut... But it might just be the hair. And I pictured her as a blonde when she became "pretty" because all of the frickin popular brunettes at our school dye their hair blonde, them thinking it'll make them look better. It doesn't at all. But alas. And I gave her cheekbones because that's the one thing I would change about my face. I love cheekbones. I really need to adjust my eyes. I keep seeing Ugly Tally's face as straight, but then when I flip the image, it's all crooked. It makes me sad. I must work harder. Oh well. Sketchblogatopia :q.

And you might recognize squinty Tally from my last post, that girl on that hover thing. That is her, on a poorly designed hoverboard because I got bored and didn't feel like thinking hard about what it'd actually look like.

Dear god I wrote a lot. This is what happens when I am given the chance to talk about my art. OKAY SEE YA.

I never pictured zane and david to look like that, but your drawings are really good! I liked the gothic look of zane.
Tally is really good looking, but the version of her as a pretty is really different from an ugly.
I would really like to see a version of Shay.

Zane is perfect! Nicely done!

You definetely captured the spirit of "ugly" Tally. I had a VERY different idea of what Zane looks like, but I like how yours opens up aspects of his personality I hadn't quite caught before. Kudos in excess for keeping it real and inspiring me to do my own fan art. The Smoke Lives!!!

Show me your fanart if you ever get a chance! The Smoke does live!

I really liked your Ugly Tally. The Pretty Tally is really good, but I think she still has brown hair. THe people who designed the cover of Pretties got it all wrong in my opinion. Your David is perfect. I'd like him more without the dirt...but that really is a major part of his personality. No showers in the Smoke, after all :)

I totally wish I could draw like you. I've tried drawing some of those characters...but they're all wrong...

Can you do more like Shay please

these are great! while i read the book i kind of have a hard time picturing the characters but these are just like the way they're described it makes it easier.

you should draw a picture of shay. i'd like to see how that'd come out.

good art :D keep doing it.

How you drew pretty Tally is wrong. She doesnt have blonde hair. The Zane you drew doesnt look anything like the Zane on the cover of the Pretties. The pretty Tally you drew would fit pretty Shay more, since she has blonde hair.

He never describes how Tally looks really, so I will defeat you with how I want to interpret it. I'm not trying to copy the photo on the cover of Pretties. It's a book, and the cover came into the vision of the art director after the actual novel was produced, so it doesn't necessarily fit Scott's personal vision (nor does it even have to fit the vision of the readers! Like myself.)
